Impossibly good
The band is exceptional, what more can I say? I brought a friend who hadn't even heard of them. I can't recall any other bands where I wasn't lying when I said, "I dunno if you're into acoustics, love songs, or metal, you'll adore at least one song." Once our hearing returned, she requested all the songs I had to add to her ipod.
Their range is their defining feature. While my expectations for the setlist were low (I think they've declined rapidly since "Light Grenades"), they performed many of the songs I've listened to daily since their release. At times, people were jumping up and down while screaming. During other songs, individuals were holding up lighters or cell phones and singing along with the acoustics.
Chance The Rapper is an exception in that some bands rely on the studio to sound good. Boyd's vocals alone will astound you, but there were numerous moments when it was just guitar solos.
I strongly suggest catching this band live. Even if you don't know any words, they are enjoyable solely for the quality. It was scorching at 90 degrees and humid, yet I still had goosebumps when Brandon stepped back and let the rest of the band take over.
Most importantly, they clearly love performing and value their fans. Some bands stop "trying" midway through the set. Chance The Rapper gives their all from start to finish. They express gratitude to the audience multiple times and never exhibit any hint of egotism. Moreover, the encore (which I understand is nearly guaranteed at every tour stop) was longer than one could imagine.
They will soon go on hiatus to pursue "real life" matters, and the future is uncertain. If you have the opportunity to see them, seize it. Especially if you're a girl, as on the journey home, the only other topic the girls discussed was how attractive Brandon was, especially without a shirt. XP
